  • We manufacture Maple worktops in our workshop in Codford, Wiltshire. From machining kiln-dried sawn American Hard Maple timber to creating beautiful full stave worktops, we have full control of the entire process.

  • Solid Maple worktops are supplied untreated with square edges and corners as standard.

  • Our full stave worktops are constructed from wide planks of Maple that run the full length of the worktop to ensure maximum durability and strength throughout years of constant use.

  • Each stave is a random width but is generally between 120mm - 200mm wide.

  • American Hard Maple panels and worktops are sanded to a 120-grit finish.

  • We can provide beautiful and bespoke Maple worktops for a range of uses. If you need a new kitchen worktop, new breakfast bar, new kitchen island or new desk top please check our offer.

  • GG Joinery also offers bespoke wooden worktops cut to size, in both width and length.

  • We can cut out the holes for the hobs and sinks. We can make edge profiles, like pencil edges, rounded edges, chamfered edges, and ogee edges.

American Hard Maple

Maple is very popular with joiners and boat builders for interior fit-out work. A beautiful finish is produced when machined.

Name:

Acer saccharum

Origin:

North-eastern and North America

Colour:

Unlike most other hardwoods, the sapwood of hard maple lumber is most used rather than its heartwood. Sapwood colour ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream colour, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish-brown. Hard maple can also be seen with curly or quilted grain patterns.

Grain:

The grain is generally straight but may be wavy. Has a fine, even texture.

Rot Resistance:

Rated as non-durable to perishable, and susceptible to insect attack.

Typical Applications:

Flooring (from basketball courts and dancefloors to bowling alleys and residential), veneer, paper (pulpwood), musical instruments, cutting boards, butcher blocks, workbenches, baseball bats, and other turned objects and wood items.

Density:

740 kg/m3 average

Workability:

Fairly easy to work with both hand and machine tools. Maple tends to burn when machined with high-speed cutters such as in a router. It turns, glues, and finishes well, though blotches can occur when staining, and a pre-conditioner, gel stain, or toner may be necessary to get an even colour.
