Solid Walnut worktops cut to size!
GG Joinery offers prime quality Walnut worktops.
We manufacture walnut worktops in our workshop in Codford, Wiltshire. From machining kiln-dried sawn American Black Walnut timber to creating beautiful full stave worktops, we have full control of the entire process.
Solid Walnut worktops are supplied untreated with square edges and corners as standard.
Our full stave worktops are constructed from wide planks of Walnut that run the full length of the worktop to ensure maximum durability and strength throughout years of constant use.
Each stave is a random width but is generally between 120mm - 200mm wide.
Walnut panels and worktops are sanded to a 120-grit finish.
We can provide beautiful and bespoke Walnut worktops for a range of uses. If you need a new kitchen worktop, new breakfast bar, new kitchen island or new desk top please check our offer.
GG Joinery also offers bespoke wooden worktops cut to size, in both width and length.
We can cut out the holes for the hobs and sinks. We can make edge profiles, like pencil edges, rounded edges, chamfered edges, and ogee edges.
American Black Walnut
American Black Walnut is used in very high-end joinery and furniture.
Name:
Juglans nigra
Origin:
Eastern United States
Colour:
Heartwood can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. The colour can sometimes have a grey, purple, or reddish cast. Sapwood is pale yellow-grey to nearly white. Figured grain patterns such as curl, crotch, and burl are also seen.
Grain:
The grain is usually straight but can be irregular. Has a medium texture and moderate natural lustre.
Rot Resistance:
Black Walnut is rated as very durable in terms of decay resistance, though it is susceptible to insect attack.
Typical Applications:
Furniture, cabinetry, gunstocks, interior panelling, veneer, turned items, and other small wooden objects and novelties.
Density:
660 kg/m3 average
Workability:
Typically easy to work provided the grain is straight and regular. Planer tear-out can sometimes be a problem when surfacing pieces with irregular or figured grain. Glues, stains, and finishes well, (though walnut is rarely stained). Responds well to steam bending.
