Tulipwood panels and worktops cut to size!

  • We manufacture Tulipwood worktops in our workshop in Codford, Wiltshire. From machining kiln-dried sawn American Poplar Tulipwood timber to creating beautiful full stave worktops, we have full control of the entire process.

  • Solid Tulipwood worktops are supplied untreated with square edges and corners as standard.

  • Our full stave worktops are constructed from wide planks of Tulipwood that run the full length of the worktop to ensure maximum durability and strength throughout years of constant use.

  • Each stave is a random width but is generally between 120mm - 200mm wide.

  • Tulipwood panels and worktops are sanded to a 120-grit finish.

  • GG Joinery also offers bespoke wooden worktops cut to size, in both width and length.

  • We can cut out the holes for the hobs and sinks. We can make edge profiles, like pencil edges, rounded edges, chamfered edges, and ogee edges.

American Poplar Tulipwood

Tulipwood is ideal for mouldings or when timber is being painted or dark-stained. Cost-effective timber.

Name:

Liriodendron tulipifera

Origin:

Eastern United States

Colour:

Heartwood is light cream to yellowish brown, with occasional streaks of grey or green. Sapwood is a pale yellow to white, not always clearly demarcated from the heartwood. Tulipwood can also be seen in mineral-stained colours ranging from dark purple to red, green, or yellow, sometimes referred to as Rainbow Poplar. Colours tend to darken upon exposure to light.

Grain:

Poplar typically has a straight, uniform grain, with a medium texture. Low natural lustre.

Rot Resistance:

Heartwood is rated as being moderately durable to non-durable, and susceptible to insect attack.

Typical Applications:

veneer, flooring, boatbuilding, furniture, cabinetry, musical instruments (piano pin blocks), plywood, and turned objects.

Density:

510 kg/m3 average

Workability:

Easy to work, and finishes a fine, smooth surface. Takes nails without tending to split, and glues well. Can be stained or painted, and holds hard enamel finishes excellently.
