Full stave Sapele worktops cut to size!
We manufacture Sapele worktops in our workshop in Codford, Wiltshire. From machining kiln-dried sawn Sapele timber to creating beautiful full stave worktops, we have full control of the entire process.
Solid Sapele worktops are supplied untreated with square edges and corners as standard.
Our full stave worktops are constructed from wide planks of Sapele that run the full length of the worktop to ensure maximum durability and strength throughout years of constant use.
Each stave is a random width but is generally between 120mm - 200mm wide.
Sapele panels and worktops are sanded to a 120-grit finish.
We can provide beautiful and bespoke Sapele worktops for a range of uses. If you need a new kitchen worktop, new breakfast bar, new kitchen island or new desk top please check our offer.
GG Joinery also offers bespoke wooden worktops cut to size, in both width and length.
We can cut out the holes for the hobs and sinks. We can make edge profiles, like pencil edges, rounded edges, chamfered edges, and ogee edges.
Sapele
Sapele is a commonly exported and economically important African wood species. It is similar to mahogany, much harder than African or American mahogany, and cheaper than mahogany.
Name:
Entandrophragma cylindricum
Origin:
Tropical Africa
Colour:
Heartwood is a golden to dark reddish-brown. Colour tends to darken with age. Besides the common ribbon pattern seen on quartersawn boards, Sapele is also known for a wide variety of other figured grain patterns, such as pommel, quilted, mottled, wavy, and beeswing.
Grain:
The grain is interlocked, and sometimes wavy. Fine uniform texture and good natural lustre.
Rot Resistance:
Heartwood ranges from moderately durable to very durable regarding decay resistance. Moderate insect/borer resistance.
Typical Applications:
Veneer, plywood, furniture, cabinetry, flooring, boatbuilding, musical instruments, turned objects, and other small wooden items.
Density:
640 kg/m3 average
Workability:
Sapele can be troublesome to work in some machining operations, (i.e., planing, routing, etc.), resulting in tear-out due to its interlocked grain. It will also react when put into direct contact with iron, becoming discoloured and stained. Sapele has a slight blunting effect on cutters, but it turns, glues, and finishes well.
